Health DATA >> The AskCHIS Community Workshop

The AskCHIS Community Workshop is a hands-on training workshop on how to access data from the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) via the Internet.

Participants will learn how to use the AskCHIS data reporting system to obtain data on asthma, diabetes, obesity, cancer and health insurance and other health-related topics. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to determine the appropriate uses and limitations of data; identify and define relevant and appropriate data needed for program, planning and policy advocacy; collect, summarize and interpret data from CHIS and effectively present their CHIS data findings to professional and lay audiences.

Two types of AskCHIS Community Workshops are offered:
IN-PERSON
Workshops conducted in person by Health DATA trainers are comprehensive one-day sessions in local computer and technology centers throughout California. In-person workshops cover both introductory and advanced AskCHIS features and includes work with multiple health topics available from CHIS.

Listings of in-person workshops and registration information are available on our training schedule page.

An online version of the training, in which participants log on from their home or office, is now available. A computer, Internet access and a telephone are required.

The introductory online workshop is approximately 90 minutes and functions much like an online meeting, where participants log on to a dedicated web page. Users will be able to watch the trainer via a live video feed, use the AskCHIS system and ask questions and chat with other participants while the training is in progress.

Online workshops cover key features of AskCHIS and specific health topics. Recordings of each workshop will be available via links on this webpage.

The online AskCHIS Community Workshop is the first of a number of online data training workshops planned by Health DATA in coming months.
