Undocumented Residents Make Up Small Share of California's Uninsured Population

E. Richard Brown, Nadereh Pourat, Steven P. Wallace

This fact sheet uses information from the 2005 California Health Interview Survey to determine how many of the 4.8 million Californians who were uninsured at the time they were interviewed were undocumented, that is, residing in the United States without official papers. The fact also looks at the work status of the state's uninsured undocumented residents and uninsured citizens ages 19 to 64. This fact sheet was funded by the California Program on Access to Care and the UC Program on Opportunity and Equity.
